  • I Wonder If You’re Lonely

I see you in the morning
I see you in the night
    I wonder if you’re lonely
Could I happen to be right?

    I wonder if you’re lonely
As you stare away in space
    Above me, not beyond me,
On our own, alone, the same

    I wonder if you’re lonely,
    I wonder if you’re brave
To open or expose a heart
    Again, to knows it’s safe

    I wonder if you’re lonely
Would you ever give a try
To one who’ll love you only
Safe as stars, up in the sky.

    I wonder if you’re lonely
When the rain is coming down
Or if the wind is blowing
    We’d laugh away your frown

    I’ll be your fun companion
You can always call a friend
To laugh away or share good
    times, forever till the end.

  • My Kids Don’t Really Like TV

My kids don’t really like TV
    They find it mostly boring
They read their books and play old games
    Or run outside exploring

My girl she draws her dresses fine
    My boy his lego shapes
Who’s seen so many good ideas
From one pair in a day

    Whenever there is idle time
    Or boredom is a threat
To know if they invent the play
No more fun, could you get

    Wherever there is paper
Or a little pile of wood
    Imagine if a helicopter
    Landed on the roof

    Out jumped a fairy princess
    As the pilot flew away
She reads her rules and blows a kiss
    Come back another day

    We might design a rocket
Or we may create a plan
    To never run out, ever
And to know how life is grand

    You never get the thrill
Of find a new way or a first
    When sitting on your bottom
Best get up before it bursts

    Without a bit of effort
    And the freedom to invent
You only get what you put in
    For learning’s heaven sent.

  • Never Give Up On Your Dreams

Never Give Up On Your Dreams

[Sky TV Sport commentator Derek Rae wrote that the (zodiac) stars were
against Liverpool in the ‘05 European Champions League Soccer final...]

To Derek Rae the stars said no
but the mighty kop would not let go
their singing woke the gods, who said
miracles, this month, must wear red

    Send a spirited, church-full city
    twenty years of faithful dignity
    familiar with grief and despair
all patient hearts to be repaired

    Create a new, heroic story
    beyond retold, forgotten glories, so
the world will know just what it means
to never, ever give up on your dreams !
    Brendon Smith (2 Jun 2005)

  • I Can Tell

    I can tell, you’re a sweety

    Happy soul, ready laugh,

I know you’ll grin and bear it,

    ‘cause you’ve got a heart

    I can tell you’re a listener

    With an acre of time

    For a sister or blister,

    Warm hug, gentle wine

    I can tell you’re a winner,

    Solid centre of gold,

For no fat, sum or ransom,

    Will your heart be sold

    I can tell, you’re a mother

    Wonder cook, loyal wife

With a look and a figure,

    To last, all your life

    I can tell, you’re a lover

I want you as my friend

    To be only, yours truly

    Forever, till the end.

  • Heaven Is Now

If heaven is now, then what are the rules
    and where are the teachers
If heaven is now, just open the doors
    All nature and beaches

If heaven is now, hey what do we do
    With all of the stories
If heaven is now, the stars are all ours
    our dreams and our glory

    Grab each of your goals
    and line them all up,
    Release your passion
    Living on love

Let go of old ways, yeah
    Throw them all out
    Hold tight and look forward,
    ‘Cause heaven is now!

If heaven is now, then what of the past
    And who for the future?
If heaven is now, real love it will last
    Some-one to be true to

If heaven is now, no worry is worth
    The time that is wasted,
If heaven is now, just lessons to learn
    Of more heavenly ways

  • Fragments of Peace

In search of love or happiness, as never seen before
Of free and open laughter, ever crying out for more

Surviving through a winter, with little room to move, for
A smile to turn a shiver, over to a happy groove

    (Chorus)
When all I see, inside your eyes, are
fragments of peace, just hold me tight
I'll be here as, the wind it blows
between the trees, our love will grow

And if our peace, is given room
    and fragments into flowers bloom
with love or fun or fancy wine
As warm as sun will ever shine

Beside a rocky mountain, on soft or grassy mounds
near water falling fountains, our love it has no bounds

Above a city sleeping, below the town awakes, as
all around us struggle, only in good arms we're safe

    (Chorus)

So if you're ever lonely, or feel your heart will burst
Go find your one and only, into their arms, do turn

Hold on to love or harmony, wherever it may be, and
link them all together, those fragments of peace

  • The Perfect Looking Wife

    Chorus:
I think it would be fair to say
I’ve spent most of my life
refining in a bloke's own way
    the perfect looking wife

    When I saw you,
    The stars said true
    My all-time would appear

    That very day,
    right in my way
    and you were driving there

    Your grin and groove,
    my heart it moved
    An angel from the sky

    By days you stayed
    My distance safe
    We talked, you parked, goodbye

    (chorus)

    In motion slow,
    Our dream did grow
    Untangled of my web

    Forever to be,
    My true beauty
Just as my dream had said

    Your smile it grew
    With hope, I knew
    Your heart deserved the best

    For all the world
    Of imaginary girls
No match for all the rest

    (Chorus)

  • Is This The Way God Wanted Us To Go?

    Remember how we started,
rough or ready, lend a hand
    Together, over even rules
    for shepherds as for lambs

For now to turn our back and
say, there is no wrong or right,
As well do for yourself, demand
    it all, explore the might

If now could hang a second,
say, if when could wait a day,
    for neighbours, mates or others,
strive for love, not slave for gain

As if for only greed or gold we grow,
Is this the way God wanted us to go?

In rosy light we dream of,
how it was here, far away,
    For sanctity or honour
    Early graves most surely paid.

To search among us now and see
Our streets still hide in shame
    The undertaker cries, and yet
    Police have none to blame

An asset or a ticket, never
Free to laugh or play, no
    Wonder with degrees as these
    our children seldom stay

So where’s the beacon, leader, light to show
Is this the way God wanted us to go?

In nature we believed, an ever friend
‘till almost, now we see our nether end
How much, may such a few consume, how long
‘till mountains tumble into oceans strong?

We burn or bury ever growing wastes,
While food has barely nutrients or taste
As weeping rivers trickle under trees,
And mother nature lurches to her knees.

Shall we go on as if, to futures blind
Beyond our power to undo or be kind?
If money wasn’t oil around esteem
there'd be enough for all of us to feast.

So tell me how are we to ever know,
Is this the way God wanted us to go?

  • The Symptoms Of Success

Success is such an age old word
    it means so many things,
    A title for completeness,
    Or a fancy diamond ring?

    Integrity or honour, good
    Address, old money, flair,
    all symptoms, obvious,
we sought, of quality, so rare

    Now symptoms of success
    are magazine fed,
    in picture perfect ads
    or roles, we see,

    Our dreams of hippy love
    or life fulfilment,
    Are lost to latest fads
    on lame TV

    New symptoms of success
    Hang on appearance
    Sharp suits or makeup,
    Shiny limos, flash

To have a look is surely
    all we dream of,
    No matter why, nor
    how we raise the cash

    When symptoms of success
    Disguise our issues, to
    hide, or maybe
    heal over time

    The risk is whether
    linger leads to fester,
    confusion, tender
    memories or mines

    For younger hearts are
    flooded with opinions
It's dog eat all, or first
    around the post

    While earnest work
    or sacrifice and trusting
    Are hidden, all we see
    are bling and most.

    The symptoms have been separated
    Mingled in the crowd,
    Amphetamines or mega
    shoppers, twenty four hours

    Frugality or faithfulness,
A friend in time of need
For love or truth, o'er many moons
    Forsaking self or greed

    Some symptoms of success
    are disappointing,
    one moment, turn
    or bought before the rest

    True happiness, contentment
    honest lessons, are
    more likely useful
    where we're going next

    Hot symptoms of success
    Can be inviting,
    For pleasure, quick,
    No vision, long or clear

    Like old or empty boxes,
    once exciting,
    no memories or
    hugs, no humble dear

    If symptoms of success
    are well appointed,
    With planning, effort,
    love or hours long

    Then heart of gold
    Replaces hollow wishes,
    Let emptiness be
    Filled with passion strong

    The symptoms of success
    are only lonely,
    if they are, all we
    yearn for, see or strive

    In harmony, respect
    with open souls, free
    Together, we need
    ever growing lives.

  • The Internet Is Free

    The internet is free,
    of all pollution, free
    of old protection,
    from itself.

    Independent, always
    open, unrepentant,
    easy, daring,
    off the shelf.

    If we search a
    Word or verse,
    can we do copy,
    Word of me

    If free to use
    Or lend, as sure
    Could we do more
    Or work as cheap?

    If information
    Has no cost
    or legal limit
    send it through

    For common good
    or fine for all
    how do we tell
    PR from true?

    Is it a saturation
    Onslaught, glut or
    Wilderness,
    still wild,

    If accurate or
    Real event is
    Non exclusive
    On the wire?

    Will only brands
    or placement
    rule or will
    Reality bite?

    Some may defend
    a right to say but
    is available online
    the same as right?

  • I Am The Son Of A Father

    To Snow,

I Am The Son Of A Father

I am the son of a Father,
    A patient man, of sorts
    Who watched or waited gamely,
Drove all over town for our sports

I am the son of a giver,
    Forsaking his Huntly roots, for
board at the Dempsey’s in Frankton
Bringing sacks full of coal in his boot

I am the son of an honest bloke,
    Familiar with toil and sweat
He knew that with a well worked plan
A safe heart, he surely would get

I am the son of a bowler,
Indoor at St Annes or South school,
With a style of his own, a steady eye,
    And the Norfolk Island triples

I am the son of a grumbler,
With murder just under his breath,
Though seldom aimed at a person,
    For the lawnmower, certain death!

I am the son of a diligent man,
With methods or models and time
It may require weeks or a season,
But in the end, he’ll get it right.

I am the son of a husband,
    Balancing work with a family,
    Cooking the occasional dinner
And sharing the remote for the telly.

I am the son of a Grandad,
With a merry wee army of kids,
They never know what to expect of him,
Leaving wide open eyes or big grins

I am the son of a joker
    Rhyming old, debatable lyrics
Having heard it, I wished for my whole life,
To be old, but a little bit silly.

I am the son of many things,
Some of which make mothers mad,
But I am a lucky son, most of all,
Because I am the son of my Dad!

    Happy Father’s Day, Dad,
    Love always, Brendon

  • I Need A Guy

I need a guy who turns me on
A guy who makes me true
    Who’s lovely on the inside
And who looks a bit like you

    He has to be immaculate,
To take me to a ball,
He’d hold my hand and spin
me round, and catch me if I fall.

    He isn’t ever angry
    And he’s hardly ever sad,
He makes me feel I’m safe and
How to do what makes me glad

He listens, gives me hugs and
    Always opens every door
He wakes and makes us breakfast
Letting me rest a little more

    He knows my every moment
And he loves me all the same
He likes to know I’m comfy
Even when we watch his game

    We always go together
    Lunch and dinner, even shop
He helps me with the food
Or if a look is me or not

And if we’re lucky one day
When our children up and go
He’ll smile and say he waited
Because he’s always wanted me soooo…

  • Tease Me Like You Mean It

Tease me like you mean it
don't just tease me as you do
cause ever since I've been here
that's the most I get from you

    Send me lots of letters
write me poems by the score
but when you say this is the end
I wish there might be more

I like it when you tease me
only, when the time is right
so if your feeling isn't real
don't keep me up all night

    Should we be even closer
you could tease me every day
when I can see or reach you
maybe two of us can play

    We'll tease away the morning,
    lie all afternoon in bed
then if our love is genuine
    we'll tease the moonlight red.

  • I Wana

I wana be one big person
I wana be all my dreams

I wana be warm and caring
the whole of what I seem

I wana be tough and giving
I wana be gentle and strong

I wana be brave and daring
    Protective, loving and long

Wana be to bits and back
    Wana be always at home

    To the top
    of the highest mountain,
    I wana be yours alone

  • If God Was To Want A Good Party

If God was to want a good party,
he'd assemble a family with friends,
they'd be healers, workers or artists
by a wide river's warm, slow bend.

He'd build a fire by an old red barn,
a log table to serve and share things,
where greetings could turn into yarns,
near a tree with a hut and two swings.

Happy children would gaggle by ages,
playing free and exploring new fun,
busy Mums making soul food or salads
tall trees giving shade from the sun

All would gather to swim in the river,
careful diving and slippery as eels,
Dads in kayaks for kids not to shiver,
native birds not alone with their squeals.

    Skylines high, rocky pinnacles watching,
shiny leaves drifting into deep greens,
while the slow moving, fresh, clean water
gave all time to reflect on old dreams.

    By night adults partied,
    local music to dance to
    swaying loud by hot flames,
full, slow moon to romance to

    Mingling new and old friends
    meant the party would last,
and the sum of the fun
    would exceed all the parts

Doves would swoop in the sky,
    helping focus on why
    all were there, joined in
    peace, one great loving release

As the young and the old mix and play,
    in the wondrous Kauaeranga Valley
they would all wish forever to stay,
at their 2004 New Year's eve!

  • I Don't Believe In Secrets

    I don't believe in secrets,
    so often wrapped in lies
I'd rather have all open truth
    than wonder what to hide

To grow I need to trust me,
I’ll never know love in fear
    My honest inner feelings need
me safe or bold and clear

    To hide denies accepting,
we need to feel our ground
If past returns to haunt us,
    real lessons must be found

In secret, names they label me,
    some glad I can't recall
so many things I cannot do,
am no damn good at all

Some secrets are of no real base,
    from rumour, ill, respite.
    False accusations must be faced
for peace or calm at night

Such secrets need to be revealed,
    their curse, they cannot hide
Most secrets will, in time, emerge
    As secrets never die.

  • The Big Answer

If you could shut out all the others,
just be sure of what you need,
the big answer should be easy.

    Free yourself from undue influence,
    for dependants, beware their future,
    always consider your parents.

Strip away most else, when you are ready,
    ask yourself the exact question.

Based on your dreams or values,
    weigh and compare all options.

    Be patient, check fine details,
    accept sacrifice as needed,
    demand the honest truth.

The big answer may need help,
    innovation, or time alone.
It may also correspond with your fate.

If you are at peace with crystal clarity,
you will know it, when the big answer hits you.

  • Mother Nature

    Mother Nature, wife of God
    Pray for us, the polluters,
now and at the end of our oil

Save us from our greenhouse gases,
made of men or part methane.
As we burn rubber, light the way

Let us write our stars as those who
    once discovered, plundered almost
all the petrol, in too few centuries

And if no more it can be sold, try
not to reinvent fools gold, as water
    battles rattle super-states worldwide.

    Forgive our growth and inefficiency,
protect us from ourselves, and wish
we’d known you as a sister, Mother,
rather than a lonely, long lost friend.

  • Eight O'clock, Late O'clock

Eight o'clock, late o'clock, story time, sleep
Eight o'clock, late o'clock in trouble deep
Trying out Mama then dragging out Dad
Tryin' to be clever, don't mean to be bad
Nine o'clock lights out, books all away
Night time, dreaming 'til another day

Eight o'clock, wake up, breakfast time
Walk to school 'cause I don't have a bike
Gotta’ get numbers and want to learn words
Talking to the brothers or chasing them birds
Nine o'clock, line up, school bell's on
Ten o'clock snacking to a skipping song

Eleven o'clock and teacher knows best
Twelve o'clock, noon time, lunch or rest
One o'clock, back in, learnin' again,
Two o'clock, playing with paints and pens
Three o'clock, free o'clock, homeward bound
Four o'clock, more o'clock, hear that sound

Five o'clock, six o'clock, coming seven
Mama's hot dinner, taste's just like heaven

  • What It's Like To Be A Kiwi

Do you know, what it's like to be a Kiwi?
Safe and sound, happy just to be alive?

Time to listen or lend a hand as needed,
Every day, you can see it in our eyes.

Do you know, what it's like to be a Kiwi?
Work away, then we party by the moon,

We can ski, Ruapehu in the morning,
Fish or swim the Coromandel afternoon

Do you know, how we grow up in New Zealand?
Our free land, where no doors are ever closed,

All aboard, it's a fun explorer journey,
Free to be, fruit or vegemite and go

Do you know, we're the centre of Pacific,
Feel the beat, hear our music loud and proud

We're a haka, the gumboots and the sheilahs
Everywhere, needs a Kiwi in the crowd.

Do you know, what it takes to be a Kiwi?
Are you brown, pink or wet
    behind the ears?
If you're willing to chip in,
The only measure is a grin,
Then we can all be Kiwis
    every loving year!

  • Like A Snowflake

    Like a snowflake, always different
    Lady faces, every time

As if alive, another space, a
    flash of nature, fresh, sublime

As sweet seduction lights a fire,
A warm desire, I need to know

    No more distractions, silky sheets,
roll endless waves, leading me so

Only I see, her inner soul or
    Short of breathing, shaky smile

Slowly I fall, off edges, still
we climb up higher, oh for time

Over, arise or through the night,
our silver moon, as spoons we seal

I look again, to save a scene
Or hear her say, this may be real

But then a leg, elbow or arm
an ear or look, I see anew

    My pretty winner, crazy sinner
    ever angel, all of you.

    XXX…!

  • Don’t Be Afraid Of Your Feelings

Don’t be afraid of your feelings, mister
    Listen and wonder or why?
    Where do they come from?
    Which are all mine, and
    What always makes them arise?

Don’t be afraid of your feelings, miss,
A good lady will lead a good herd,
    Learn how to temper,
    Remember to mentor, and
    What re-occurs should be learned

Don’t be afraid of your feelings, children,
Speak them, if truthful or wise
    You have your own answers
    Weigh up real chances, and
    don’t confuse need with desire.

Don’t be afraid of your feelings, soldier
Controlling them will make you strong
    More complete, see your fate,
Or, if cruelty you face, stop,
As that, is what feelings are for!
